Paly Science Olympiad Teams 2011
Dec 3, 2010 6:13 PM, by Albert Lin
Thanks to everyone who tested this year! Unfortunately, we have limited space and were unable to accommodate everyone. According to the club constitution:
"Teams for Science Olympiad will be selected by the SciOly Presidents based on factors including but not limited to: past performance in the competition, devotion to Paly SciOly, performance on testing procedures, expertise in specific areas of scientific inquiry, engineering experience, event preferences, and record of past math and science classes and experience"
As such, the factors considered in team selection were as follows:
Test performance, past competition experience (preferably at the state-level), expertise in specific areas of scientific inquiry, and engineering experience/intent to build were all factors considered in team making. Please note also that writing tests did not guarantee placement on Green Team for any individual. In addition, because of National Science Olympiad team restrictions, only 7 seniors could be placed on any one team.
Here are a few more specifics upon the exact process:
The first round of people selected were those who excelled in both testing and past competition performance. The next round of selections was those who did well in tests and competition, and had engineering experience. The third round of selections was primarily of people who did well in remaining events. Due to factors such as schedule and engineering, scoring high on a subject test did not guarantee placement on Green Team. Team decisions have been reviewed and approved by our coaches, and all team decisions made by the Presidents are final.
The 2011 Green Team and White Team are as follows:
Green Team:
Albert Lin
Jackie Woo
Jenny Hong
Mark Nishimura
Karine Hsu
Jeffrey Ling
Michael Yuan
Benson Chen
Clara Lee
Dan Shan
Chris Liu
Rui Shu
Grace Lin
Michelle Chung
Green Team Alternates:
Andrew Liu, James Maa
White Team:

White Team Alternates:

Team members will be notified of their events shortly. If you would like your test(s) back, please contact us and we will return them to you. Keep in mind, however, that test performance was just one of the factors in placement on teams.
